Shot fired at RCMP during high-speed chase near Elk Point

One man and two women were arrested after a shot was fired from a car being pursued by an Elk Point RCMP vehicle Saturday.At 12:53 p.m. March 5, Elk Point RCMP were called to a report of a man pointing a gun at two people near a home on the Fishing Lake Métis Settlement.Officers responded, saw the suspect vehicle – a small red car – and started following it.The police pursuit went north through the First Nation where it was called off for public safety, RCMP said. Another RCMP officer was on patrol in the area when the suspect vehicle reportedly sped past him. Police said the officer tried to catch up to the suspect vehicle when a gun was seen pointing out the driver’s side of the car and the police vehicle was shot at.The suspect vehicle drove into the ditch and one man and two women ran into the bush, police said.A number of law enforcement teams converged on the area to search for the suspects, including a RCMP helicopter.A gun was found in the suspect vehicle, RCMP said.Three people were arrested. No one has been charged yet.No one was injured.The Fishing Lake Métis Settlement is about 300 kilometres east of Edmonton.
