Nanaimo man arrested after sports fields damaged


A 19 year old man has been arrested after thousands of dollars of damage was done to several Nanaimo soccer fields.Early Sunday morning a vehicle was spotted, “pulling donuts” on a field.Within minutes police located an older model Jeep with grass and mud stuck to the tires and frame.The driver was arrested for Mischief over five thousand dollars.He has been released and will appear in court May 24th.The suspect is being investigated in connection with damage to at least five other playing fields throughout central Nanaimo.Frustrated city officials say the vandalism comes at a time city crews were preparing fields for upcoming ball seasons.“Now we have to start the process all over again”, says Al Britton, Manager of Park Operations.
