Warriors fall back to Earth in 112-95 loss to Lakers

Atlanta’s trip began on Tuesday with a 109-105 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Other formidable teams that could cause problems to the Warriors in the final stretch include the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, Memphis Grizzlies and Portland Trail Blazers. The Warriors were outshot overall (47.1 percent to 40.2), from 3-point distance (37.5 percent to 13.3) and from the free throw line (95.5 to 81.0).

But when Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson combined to shoot just 1-of-18 from three-point range, it’s hard getting anything done.
Bryant could be right, but even the greatest teams lose games they shouldn’t. “That’s what we’ve been most proud of this year”, Curry said. We need to see consecutive losses before determining that.
Jordan Clarkson (25 points) and D’Angelo Russell (21 points) led the young Lakers team to the historic win – never before a team below.
Los Angeles has lost 9 of 10 and is dealing with injuries to a number of key players. Congolese Serge Ibaka scored 13 points and blocked twice in the win.
“I’m just as speechless as you are about tonight”, Lakers icon Kobe Bryant joked. Bryant sat out the fourth quarter. We paid attention to detail very well. “I’m not sure how you do it, but try to find a way”. Seven Lakers in all scored in double figures.
Andre Drummond had 14 points and 18 rebounds for Detroit, and Marcus Morris added 19 points. But in games against substandard opponents like the Lakers, those opponents don’t score enough against Golden State’s outstanding defense to contribute to the over. The bench in the first half pumped in 24 points.
Los Angeles led 84-73 heading into the fourth quarter. “As they grow, they start trusting that more and more”.
It was also, as ESPN noted, the first time after 60 games that a team with a win percentage of.
In the first half of the game, the Lakers were taking advantage of turnovers and got out to a 14-point lead right before the second half.
NOTES: A moment of silence was held for former First Lady Nancy Reagan, who passed Sunday morning in Los Angeles at the age of 94….
“We weren’t ready”, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.
“We don’t want to give up anything”, Magic swingman Evan Fournier said. “Telling us to push it when we got it, don’t wait, and it worked”. With Lou Williams still out and rookie Anthony Brown out for four weeks with a stress reaction in his foot, Marcelo Huertas got big minutes once again.
With a run home featuring 15 of 22 home games, it is certainly doable for the Warriors but a game like this is not one they will want to be dropping.
