2 young women killed in fatal accident east of Vernon

VERNON — Flowers lay on the side of Highway 6 about a kilometre east of Vernon after a fatal accident early Sunday morning that killed two 21-year-old women.It happened around 1:30 a.m. on Highway 6, near Waddington Drive.Police say a white 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck with five people inside was travelling eastbound and couldn’t make the curve on the road.The vehicle hit the shoulder and rolled several times, according to RCMP.The two female passengers were pronounced dead at the scene.The driver, a 21-year-old male from Armstrong, is under investigation. Police say there’s no indication that alcohol and speed were contributing factors.Five firefighters from the Vernon Fire Department responded to the scene.The B.C. Ambulance Service transported two patients to hospital.The highway was closed in both directions for several hours overnight but has since reopened.
