Arsenal ready for ‘crunch time’ – Wenger

Sports

Our fans are unhappy, I am unhappy, we’re all unhappy and if you were in our dressing room after the game you would see that we are absolutely devastated to lose the game.

The Gunners played out a 1-1 draw with Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham side in their meeting in the Premier League earlier this season.
Arsene Wenger’s side face a crucial match ahead against fellow title challengers Tottenham on Saturday on the back of successive league defeats and facing growing scrutiny about the team’s perceived lack of character. Bentaleb, who was a regular starter under Pochettino last season but has started only twice in the league this term, requested to play for the youth team after being left out of the squad against West Ham in midweek.
Wenger said: “We had all the ingredients to win the game, but football is football – it is cruel sometimes”.
It’s a familiar story for Arsenal fans, who are so used to seeing their team crumble when the going gets tough. “Maybe they are special people”. “If they have players that have the advantage (of experience) to win the title, what happened against Manchester United or Swansea?” I would just like to come back on that because we watched the game again.
“We just need to be calm about that and carry on”.
“Cech was struggling before the game on Wednesday with a groin problem. Maybe we aren’t too special”.
The Gunners will be without goalkeeper Petr Cech, who will be sidelined for up to a month with a calf injury in another big blow for Wenger.
Arsenal were monitoring Pochettino, who would have been 31 at the time, and were impressed with what they were seeing from the future Spurs chief.
“You have a lot of examples of different clubs signing a player or a manager with a big background of big trophies behind them but it is sometimes success, sometimes no. You never know”.
A win would not only allow them to crush Arsenal’s title dreams, but also provide some reality to championship dreams of their own. You could sense the belief and then the manager made a change, Alli came on and all of a sudden they scored and the job was done. What gives you belief is the quality of our spirit and the players.
