Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal’s week just keeps getting better and better, with today’s news of the return of three key players.
The Red Devils host Quiqe Sanchez Flores and his Watford side at Old Trafford and will be hoping to extend their winning run to four straight games.
“I think Mr Hodgson has answered the question and you are asking again”, van Gaal said. We have to go step by step, because we have four wins in four but we have a small selection.
“Lots of players are coming back but they must be fit to play, which is different”, he said. We needed a left-back and we inquired about a lot of players. The weather meant it was hard to play good football.
“When you [reporters] are in front of his [Rashford’s] house and that kind of stuff, I don’t think that is beneficial for a boy of 18 years old”.
An air of optimism has returned to Old Trafford as Manchester United aim for a fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday night.
As Van Gaal’s men continue to wade through a testing, fixture-heavy period, the Dutchman is staying grounded and is now looking forward to a trip to West Brom on Sunday.
The match saw summer signing Anthony Martial return to the starting lineup after he was injured in the pre-game warmup against FC Midtjylland last week.
“It was a physical game”, admitted Van Gaal.
“I have not bought a striker because of Wayne Rooney and Martial, because they could play in the striker position, and because Rooney is the captain he shall always play”.
He might have come in for the Watford match but we played another system and Memphis Depay and Jesse Lingard played very well.
“I believe we can do it. What is important is that the players believe that too”.
“He did it very well, but normally I am always convinced the first time is not so hard because the player is so focused to do what he has to do”. “Then you can see how hard it was and we are still in the possibility of being in the first four of the league”.
