Variety reports that Annabelle Wallis is playing an archaeologist in the movie, although no further details about her character were made available. She will be joining Tom Cruise and Sofia Boutella.
However Tom won’t be playing the bandaged monster from the sarcophagus, as stunning Kingsman star, Sofia Boutella, will be taking on the role of Universal’s iconic horror star. Jon Spaihts (Prometheus) wrote the screenplay. Alex Kurtzman is directing and producing the film, which is part of Universal’s massive plan to creature a shared universe with their “Classic Monsters” characters.
However the new title will be set in the modern day – a stark contrast to the period setting of the last three titles under The Mummy umbrella, which starred Brendan Frasier. Stephen Sommers’ more recent The Mummy and The Mummy Returns films set Arnold Vosloo in the title role.
Annabelle Wallis is in talks to star in “The Mummy” reboot.
Wallis is now onscreen opposite Sasha Baron Cohen in The Brothers Grimsby and will be seen in Guy Ritchie’s Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur. She also recently wrapped Zack Whedon’s thriller “Come and Find Me” opposite Aaron Paul. The actress is repped by UTA, Untitled Entertainment, Jackoway Tyerman and the U.K.’s United Agents.
