UFC 196 Results – Conor McGregor loses the “McGregor Belt” against Diaz

UFC 196 kicks off starting at 8 p.m. ET with the preliminary matches from the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas this Saturday, March 5.

Tate won her first belt after choking out Holm in the fifth round.
The dual upsets stunned a sellout crowd and one of the biggest pay-per-view audiences in the history of mixed martial arts.
Earlier, Miesha Tate defeated Holly Holm – also with a rear naked choke – to take the bantamweight title. These things happen. I’ll learn, and I’ll grow.
The Holm vs Tate fight will take place immediately before the McGregor vs Diaz fight on the UFC 196 main event card. When McGregor knocked out Aldo 13 seconds into their UFC 194 fight, the fight didn’t begin until a few minutes before 1 a.m. ET.
In the second round, Diaz’s face was a completely bloody mess after McGregor started putting together an impressive series of strikes only to get caught with some by Diaz that rocked him.
The Brazilian’s message to McGregor was to improve on his jiu-jitsu after he was bettered by Diaz in that department in the sequence that finished the contest.
I am not forgetting about 155 or 170. Holm appeared to be unconscious when Tate finally released her from the choke to celebrate. Mostly people seem shocked. “She went out like a champion”. She’s tougher than nails. He was efficient. I was not.
Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz trade blows during their UFC 196 fight.
That is not the entire amount that McGregor stands to make from the fight though.
Dave Doyle of MMA Fighting said for all McGregor’s strengths, moving up two weight classes from featherweight to welterweight was something he just couldn’t overcome.
“I enjoyed fighting a man who could take a punch“, he said. “This is part of the game”. “I’m always in good shape; I peak as I go. I took a chance to move up in weight and it didn’t work”. “I think 145 will be next, I’ll defend my belt and I believe Nate will fight Dos Anjos now and I think after I defend my belt and climb myself back up I will get my shot at that lightweight belt… maybe me and Nate can do it again”, he added.
“Surprise, motherf-kers”, Diaz said when approached by Joe Rogan after the fight. “He’s a hard-hitting little guy, but nothing I never felt before”.
“I’ve sparred with top 10 boxers… hit with everything by 168-lb fighters”, Diaz said. “I had to be patient”.
